Yes, you’re reading this right. After all these years and their infamous shift to manufacturing their shoes in China, which saw the end of the original vegan Dr Marten boots (those with fabric uppers and no leather), Dr Martens have finally come out with an official vegan range. It’s very small (only these boots in black and the “cherry” colour and a low shoe in these two colours), but it’s vegan and it’s docs. These were pointed out to me by a reader who’s bought the boots and swears that they are the most comfortable and best made vegan boots you’re ever likely to wear.

Taking a break from crazy shoes today for something somewhat more practical (as far as heels go).

These ultra suave booties by Beyond Skin are just what a girl needs to complete the high flying executive outfit for the office. There are so many ugly ugly work shoes in the world. It warms my heart to see any shoes that are a. vegan b. respectable job friendly and c. feminine and sexy.

I don’t actually work in an office anymore and when I did, it was a very casual office. Still, surfing the web for shoes and coming across these almost makes me wish I had a better excuse to buy these.

As it stands, until things here at Addict Towers heat up moneywise, I’m going to save my pennies for totally insane shoes that are suitable for very few, if any, occasions.

This one goes out to you Americans who want to get the beautiful Beyond Skin shoes but don’t want to get shafted on customs or pay higher delivery charges.

Here are Airseal’s vegan safety work boots from Vegetarian Shoes. These are unisex, sturdy safety wear boots with steel toes, a padded collar and strong construction. They are made from really tough vegan materials that wear and age like leather.

These boots are tested and approved for site work. They’re also about as waterproof you can get short of wearing wellies, so can be used for hiking as well.

All in all, these are tough, well-made shoes that could come in really handy if you’re vegetarian or vegan but need proper safety work boots for your job.

In my ongoing quest to find vegan shoes you can wear to work (if you work somewhere that requires smart shoes) but also actually enjoy wearing without feeling like you’re back at school, I occasionally come across some really nice shoes… Like these!

They are by Schuh’s own brand and are called bonbon laser. Not sure about the bonbon part, but the laser is cause the cut out pattern is laser cut.

I’m totally digging the pattern, plus I love the toe. Apart from that, they have a classic, girlie yet professional design that will be perfect for work or going out somewhere reasonably smart with your little black dress. All in all a neat variation on a traditional theme.

Work shoes can be so depressing even if you wear leather, so finding nice-looking vegan work clothes that won’t make you feel dumpy or kill your feet by being cheap and crappy is not easy.

So here’s a pair of Stella McCartney smart flats that are sexy, stylish and very respectable. Work shoes you’ll actually want to wear, rather than feel that you have to.

The good news is that they are heavily discounted, as they are not this season’s. The bad news is that there are only a few sizes left on the site and they are all pretty small.

These suki side bow court shoes from Schuh are respectable enough for the office and fun enough to make you feel fashionable, rather than stuck in dull office attire.

More importantly, though, they’re pretty and retro enough to be worn outside the office with some more interesting outfits, getting my vote for this week’s simple yet useful and functional choice (unless I find a better one in the next few days).

Here’s a cool pair of vegan brogues for the guys. I’d say they’re more in the realm of work shoes than, say, the ultra-cool vintage brogues you’d wear with your zoot suit, but they are still pretty funky.

I really like the pattern both inside and out and the pointed toe is cool. It’s second only to the rounded toe in my book (I loathe square toed shoes for blokes). All in all, these are actually pretty retro and smarter than the Vegetarian Shoes brogues I wrote about a while back.

If you’re a vegan guy looking for a cool pair of shoes to wear with your suit to work, etc. then you should definitely take a look at these.

I have to say, Marks and Spencer wouldn’t have struck me as the obvious place to go looking for stylish vegan shoes, but I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I checked out their shoe section. They seem to have a good selection of suprisingly sexy shoes and a significant amount of those are leather-free.
These so-called “trouser shoes” are a fine example: they are unassuming, yet sexy and could be equally at home with dull work clothes or a glorious outfit. The look is somewhat retro-esque with the chunky heel and all. In fact, they remind me a bit of women’s Oxfords, but instead of lacing, you get the modern (and slightly kinky-looking) zip, making it a good all-round shoe. Of course, anything that’s made of shiny patent PVC-type stuff is bound to look just a little bit fetish, which is definitely a fine look for any shoe.
