These unusual cotton and recycled car tyre sandals by Komodo are ethically produced and decidedly different. If you want to get yourself a timeless, somewhat ethnic sandal cheap (they are now reduced), then get in there quick, as they are almost sold out.

These classic and rustic vegan men’s boots by Green Shoes will likely last you a lifetime.

They are handmade in the UK by people who love their job and, while not exactly cheap, can be resoled from now to eternity are are designed to be comfortable and hard wearing.

I’ve tagged them with bohemian and hippie, as Green Shoes do have a very earthy, eco appeal.
However, I reckon these boots are classic enough to appeal to the more urban gentleman as well.

Great if you’re the sort of person who wants a decent, manly pair of boots that exists outside of changing fashion trends and will last you for years and years so you don’t have to go shopping for another.

If you’re looking for ultra-girlie summer trainers then I do believe you may have found them. They have a totally young and casual vibe. Sort of…Middle class bohemian – virginal but easily corruptible (you know, cause they’re pale).

Just picture them with a white summery dress or jeans for the perfectly sexy “just fell out of bed and slipped those on” look.

I love hearing about small, ethical shoe companies so I’m really happy to feature these Desert boots by Guat Shoes from Sheffield. They manage to be at once both pretty smart-casual and respectable, yet quite bohemian / hippie as well. Excellent.

My friend John owns a pair of these and told me about these people, who make all their shoes by hand, sourcing local materials whenever possible. The shoes are apparently really comfortable and hard wearing and can be resoled, meaning you get really good value for money. The vegan versions are made out of lorica, which is about as tough as you can get for non-leather.

They make shoes and boots for both men and women (there’s also a desert boot version for the girls). I must say they have some real funky looking boots and things. It’s just a shame their “Guat originals” don’t come in faux leather, cause they’re totally wicked.

Just look at these mad heels! Yes, that’s a clear heel they’ve got, just like the carved lucite heels of yore. I’m not sure this is lucite (in fact, I’m pretty sure it isn’t), but it’s still pretty damn cool. I like the pattern as well. It actually reminds me of summer blankets from the late 60s / early 70s. I’ve put them on as party shoes cause you could (and should) definitely wear them out somewhere fancy, but the pattern makes them almost more suitable for being day shoes, I think.

My first thought when I saw these was that the big bow was going to be made of leather, but no! Add that to Irregular Choice’s (for it is they who make these shoes) recent habit of lining their shoes with velvet and you’ve got a very nice pair of non-leather heels. To-ta-lly brilliant!

Well, the Palladium 90s look must be back, cause since I saw a pair of the originals on Schuh, I have noticed an explosion of them elsewhere. Here’s some from Office’s own brand, complete with a flowery lining that looks like something your gran would have as a wallpaper. Still, it’s not entirely uneasy on the eye, is it?

Yes, you can wear them as hiking boots, especially if you roll up the flowery bits so that the boots hold your ankle better. I admit that when I wore my similar pairs as hiking boots, it was in the desert where it was A. mostly dry and B. a very similar colour to these boots. You may want to get a different pair of vegan hiking boots if you’re going for a stroll in the English countryside.

These are not waterproof, but they do dry very quickly, plus they have the whole English garden thing going for them, so you can carry a bit of the countryside around with you.

Is that incense burning I smell? These casual, bohemian velvety quilted ankle boots definitely look like something out of an old Beatles video, which I guess is why they are called Penny Lane. They’re by Sugar who do specialise in that whole bedroom slipper boot look, but I’m willing to let that go for these, cause these look homey in a good way.
I like the mismatched retro buttons and the shape is pretty boho too…

I’d pair them with tights or leggings and some sort of oversized jumper, though I guess you could also put some flowers in your hair. Actually, why not go straight to the source for inspiration? I must say that I am thinking more Kings Road than Penny Lane, though. What’s with all the horses?

Another winner from Novacas, this time for the ladies. I just love their look. It’s chunky, somewhat bohemian but still very urban and modern at the same time. These vegan heels come in the sort of colours you usually only see in leather. Yes, that’s right, someone has finally figured out the fact that the tanned leather look is a good look and transported it into vegan world. OK, so I’ve actually seen some cheap knock offs of leather shoes with this sort of colour scheme before, but Novacas are 100% vegan, ethical, etc. etc.

They are actually on sale now too at Mooshoes so are only $50.
They also come in sort of olive green or black too.

These “Sora” polka dot heels from Rocket Dog are so very cute! One of the things I like most about Rocket Dog is that they really do pay attention to detail. Their shoes always have such nice little touches and these are no different. Check out the lovely red trim, the sweet retro flower and the polka dot heel and lining.

The material, in case you’re wondering, is velour: soft, velvety velour. If you click through and go through the rest of the pics, you’ll see the heel has quite a funky shape too.

All in all, this is a lovely, rather bohemian shoe. It’s a bit too distinctive to be 100% versatile, but would certainly blend in nicely with both modern and vintage outfits and even with a simple pair of jeans.

Yes, we’re definitely talking earthy hippie chic here, but quite upmarket hippie chic, so if there’s a hidden bohemian artist or organic gardener in you, now’s the time to come out and wear your lentils with pride!
Some of their other shoes are way too too hippie for my own personal liking, but these I think are quite nice and versatile.
The flat pump look is very “sensible”, but the lacing is really girlie. They would look lovely with a dress and they come in a wide range of colours. They’re not cheap but are handmade to last and can returned to Green Shoes to be easily resoled and repaired for a pretty small fee, so would last for years. I assume they are also pretty comfortable.

Green shoes are ethical and environmentally-aware and while they make shoes out of leather as well, their glues don’t contain animal products, so their vegan shoes are truly vegan.
